While visiting the adopted village ‘Khaur’ with my fellow SMS, Dr. Raghuraj Kishore TIwari (Agronomist) we observed a wheat field with very poor plant population. On enquiring the farmer Mr. Rishi Gautam reported submergence of the field due to overflowing minor drainage channel which took place last year also.
Wheat seed were not treated with fungicide and no precautionary measures were taken to stop flooding.
In another field which belongs to Mr. Manoj Dwivedi also had the problem of water leaching into the water field but he left that much of area and did not sow anything in a that much of area (A small portion only).
What could be done:
Rishi Raj Gautam should have taken advantage of previous experience and should take following precautions:
1. Treat seed with fungicide.
2. Make necessary arrangements to stop flooding or water leaching.
3. Learn other water management techniques since irrigation channel system is new .
